Fall Classes and Events

There is a lot going on this fall.  A lot!

First – class descriptions.

Beginning classes are really beginning classes – for the “What do I do with these needles/hook?” type of person.  In beginning crochet, you’ll learn to chain, single crochet, and double crochet.  By the end you should be able to make any scarves, dishcloths, or potholders.  In beginning knitting, you’ll learn to cast-on and knit (purling and binding off come in another class).  The beginning classes are single, 2 hour classes.  You will need 1 skein of light colored, non-fuzzy (not novelty, mohair, or alpaca – you need to be able to see your stitches and fuzzy yarn really does not help there!), DK (#3), Worsted (#4), or Bulky (#5) weight yarn and needles or hook of an appropriate size.

Crochet garments:  In this class you will learn what you need to know to make a sweater, a skirt, or other crocheted garments.  You’ll start small – the project is a doll sweater!  For this class you just need to be comfortable with chain, single crochet and double crochet.  The cost is $30 plus supplies.  (yarn needs will be announced)

Knitting Cables:  In this class you’ll learn the basics of cables.  Right, left, reversible, and compound cables. The projects for the class will be 3 mug wraps to decorate your coffee mug.  For this class you need to know how to cast on, knit & purl, bind off.  The cost is $20 plus supplies.  (yarn needs will be announced)

Seamless Sweater Design (EPS Sweater-in-the-round):  Kim Neufeld  will teach you how to design and knit a seamless sweater based on Elizabeth Zimmerman’s EPS method.  This is a two-part class for a total of 6 hours.  For this class you must know how to knit & purl in the round.  This class does have homework!.  The cost is $45 plus supplies.  The amount of yarn you need for this class will vary based on the size you want to make, stitch pattern used (like cables), and weight of selected yarn.  A good average would be between 1400 and 1800 yards for worsted (#4) weight yarn in a mostly stockinette pattern.  Kim will talk about yarn selection also.

Fair Isle/Stranded Colorwork:  Love the look of Scandinavian ski-sweaters?  In this class you will learn how to work with multiple colors to make traditional patterns.  We won’t make a sweater, but a purse/iPad sleeve.  Cost for the class is $20 plus supplies.  (yarn needs will be announced)

Wool Soakers/Longies:  Learn how to make your own wool longies/soakers for your babies and toddlers.  For this class you need to know how to knit and purl in the round.  The cost is $20 plus supplies (yarn needs will be announced).

With all these classes, if you purchase $10 or more of yarn and needles/hooks for the class you will receive $10 off the class cost.

More coming up events.  I’ll let you know about them tomorrow!
